Everybody Loves Saturday Nite
Mike Pumphrey used to perform this frequently as a solo when he played at some military bases like Ft. Hood. It was always extremely popular and always brought tears to a few eyes. "I was young then," Mike says. "Now it brings tears to MY eyes when I sing it--so I don't!"
They are rioting in Africa, they're starving in Spain
There are hurricanes in Florida and Texas needs rain
The whole world is festering with unhappy souls
The French hate the Germans, the Germans hate the Poles
Italians hate Yugoslavs, South Africans hate the Dutch
And we don't like anybody very much
But we can be thankful and tranquil and proud
Man's been endowed with a mushroom-shaped cloud
("Lllovely!" "Thank you.")
And we know for certain that some lovely day
Someone will set the spark off
("Smashing!" "Yes!")
And we will all be blown away
They are rioting in Africa, there's strife in Iran
What nature doesn't do to us
Will be done by our fellow man
She's the butterfly in my cottonwood tree
She's a cool sip of cider in the sun
She's a bluebird's wing, she's the song I sing
When my day is done
She doesn't know she sets my heart to singin'
And I don't guess she even cares
'Cuz other fellas hold her hand at dances
And other fellas walk her on the square
One bought her a ribbon
One bought her a comb
I can't buy her nothin'
So I guess I'll go home
But I could give her the diamonds in the morning dew
Or the gold in a field of corn
Or the pearls of light in the stars at night
Before the day is born
If only I could tell her how I'm feelin'
If only she would listen to my song
I'd think of all the pretty things to tell her
Then she'd know I'd loved her all along
Then she'd walk beside me
And call me her own
But that's just a dream
So I guess I'll go home
(w/ English Translation)
Abre las puertas, vaquero!
del corral de la manada
que tenemos que lazar
la vaquilla colorada
(Repeat first stanza)
Oy, oy, oy, oy
Vamos a lazar!
A la colorada que tenemos que tentar
(Repeat stanza four times)
Dicen que la colorada
tiene los cuernos puntales
y dicen que tienen miedo
vaqueros y caporales!
Oy, oy, oy, oy
vamos a lazar
a la colorada que tenemos que tentar
(Repeat first verse twice, then second verse four times, then end.)
The Red Bull
Open the door, cowboy!
Open the door of the old corral!
because we have to lasso the red bull
(Repeat first stanza)
Oy, oy, oy, oy
Let's lasso the red bull!
It's he we must lure!
(Repeat stanza four times)
They say the red bull
Has very sharp horns
And they say that they strike fear
Into the cowboys and their men
Oy, oy, oy, oy
Let's lasso the red bull!
It's he we must lure!
(Repeat first verse twice, then second verse four times, then end.)
Chords
(courtesy Mike Pumphrey)
As performed by B&T, this songs switches back and forth several times between the key of "C" and the Key of "G." Mike has shown the chords for the first series of changes. If you listen to the recording you will easily hear how they switch back and forth through the same chords for the rest of the song. (Bud sings in "G,"Travis sings in "C")
Carmen Carmella, you made the sun shine
You warmed my days for a little while
And though you've left me to grieve forever
I know I'll never forget your smile
As the warm rays of sunset die in the west
And tell me the day is through
My heart and I know my dreams have vanished forever
Slowly my faith dies, too
Carmen Carmella, why did you leave me?
My life will always be dark, I know
Bring back the blue skies, bring back your soft eyes
Carmen Carmella, I love you so
